133 STEPS
1. This tutorial is part of a series on using the Interactive Menu, which is available throughout the Ref Insight platform.
The interactive menu is accessed through the Actions button and lets users customize and save report displays.
2. This tutorial demonstrates how to use Column headers to Filter, and how to use the Filters item within the interactive menu.
3. Within each column header, you can sort ascending or descending.
For this example, we are in the Matches report. Click on the column header Match Key, then click on Sort Ascending to sort these items in ascending order.
4. The items are now in ascending order, with an up arrow showing next to the column header.
5. Click Sort Descending to sort the items in descending order.
6. The items are now in descending order, with a down arrow showing next to the column header.
7. Click on the column header and use the Filter area to search for a specific item.
8. Typing in this area and clicking Enter will filter and show available items meeting your search terms.
Another option is to scroll through the available items and selecting it.
9. Typing in a search item uses the operator "contains", meaning all items containing your search term will be displayed.
In our example, we filtered off any Match Key containing "003".
10. To turn off a filter temporarily, uncheck the box to the left of the filter.
11. The filter is now turned off, and all match keys are displayed.
12. To turn the filter back on, check the box to the left of the filter.
13. Filters can be combined. In this example, we want to see all match keys containing 003 that occur in the 2025 Alberta Football League competition.
With the Match Key filter in place, click 2025 Alberta Football League to add a competition filter.
14. Our filters now display items from our selected Competition that contain "003" in the match key.
15. To remove a filter permanently, click the X to the right of the filter.
16. The report can be filtered for a single item under any column header. For example, we can display all the items for one home team. Click the column header.
17. Click Calgary Gators
18. All matches with the Home Team of Calgary Gators now display.
19. Let's remove this filter.
20. A control-break can also be used from a column header.
For example, to display all the matches for each site, click the Site column header and click the control-break icon.
21. Matches for each site are now grouped together. Control breaks can be combined with filters if you wish.
22. Now that we've seen how to do basic filtering using column headers, let's explore more complex filtering using the Interactive Menu.
Click Actions to open the interactive menu.
23. Click Filter
24. The Filter window is organized into three main areas: Column, Operator, and Expression.
The Column area is a dropdown list of all columns. The Operator selects how the filter functions. The Expression indicates what the filter should look for.
25. Let's start with a basic example. Our Column is set to Match Key, our Operator is set to "equals". Click the arrow next to Expression to see what our options are.
26. Let's choose CB-006 as the Match Key for our basic filter.
27. Click Apply
28. Our report now shows items with Match Key CB-006.
29. Let's explore more complex filters.
30. Click Column to expand the dropdown list.
31. Click Date to set some date filters.
Note that filtering for specific dates must be done through this filter function if there is no shortcut displayed for start and end dates on the page.
This Matches page has this shortcut, but let's carry on.
32. To select one specific date, leave the Operator as "equals". Click the calendar icon to select a date.
33. Select a date. The report will filter items for this date.
34. Let's look at other Operator options. Click the down arrow to see the options.
35. The "greater than" operator shows items greater than what we specify in the Expression. For this example, we want to display dates that are greater than ...
36. ... a date we pick from the calendar.
37. Use the arrows to change the month, or select the month from the dropdown.
38. Select the date.
39. Our filter will show items with a date greater than July 1, 2025.
Click Apply.
40. You can Edit a Filter by clicking inside of it.
41. Let's try a different Operator.
42. Click the "greater than or equal to" operator.
43. Let's pick a different date.
44. Click here
45. Let's select Oct 4, 2025 instead of July 1, 2025.
46. Our filter is now set to show items with dates greater than or equal to October 4, 2025.
Click Apply.
47. Any filters we set will be displayed here.
48. There are some general options to filter dates under the column header. For example, as we saw earlier, we can sort them in ascending order.
49. Let's look at another operator option for dates.
50. Click between to filter items that occur between two dates.
51. You'll see there are now two calendar entries. We'll leave October 4 as our first date. Click the calendar icon to select the second entry.
52. Let's select October 18, 2025 as our second date.
53. The report will now show items where the date is between October 4th and October 18th, 2025.
Click Apply.
54. Let's look at another Operator option.
55. Click Operator
56. Click is in the last
57. Note the Expression items have changed to accommodate this specific Operator, which relates to time. We need to specify the quantity and units of time for our filter.
58. For this example, we want to filter items where the date is in the last 7 days.
Type 7 for our quantity and click days for our units. Note the other options of minutes, hours, weeks, months, or years.
59. Click Apply
60. The Operator "is in the last" filters for past games. We can also filter to see future games. Click Edit Filter.
61. Click Operator
62. Click is in the next
63. Let's look ahead to the next 24 hours instead.
64. Type 24 in the Expression area and change days to hours for the Reporting Period.
65. Click hours
66. Click Apply
67. We now see all the matches occurring in the next 24 hours.
68. The Date column header has some quick filter options for time periods in the past or future. For example, we can do a quick filter to show what has occurred in the Last 2 Days from today's date.
69. Let's remove this filter and explore other filtering options from the Interactive Menu.
70. Click Actions, then Filter
71. Click Column
72. Let's explore some filtering options with the Site column.
73. Click Operator
74. The in Operator is used to mean "or" within the platform. This distinct name comes from the underlying database architecture and cannot be changed by Ref Insight. However, it works exactly like an "or" operator to select multiple items.
75. Click the down arrow next to Expression to see our options.
76. Click on the relevant items one at a time.
Do not insert commas, periods, or other punctuation. Commas will be added between selections automatically.
77. Scroll through the list as needed and make your selections.
78. Note each selection appears in the Expression area, separated by commas.
79. Our filter will now display items where the Site is either 20th Street Park, OR Abraham Lincoln High School, OR ACE High School.
Click Apply when finished.
80. Remember, the "in" operator is used to select multiple items, just like an "or" operator.
81. Let's look at a few more filter functions.
82. For this example, we'll focus on the Schedule column.
83. Click Operator
84. If you want to exclude one specific item, click the symbol with the exclamation point next to the equals sign, which means "not equal to".
85. To exclude multiple items, use the "not in" operator.
86. Click here
87. The Schedule options will show in the dropdown.
88. Let's choose U14 as the schedule to exclude.
Click Apply.
89. Let's remove this filter and look at a different operator.
90. Click Actions, then Filter
91. Click Column
92. Click Gender
93. Click Operator
94. To find items that are blank, choose the operator is null.
95. This operator is useful when you need to identify items where an entry is missing.
Click Apply.
96. We can see several matches where the gender datapoint is missing. We could then work through the list from here to backfill the missing datapoint until there were no more items meeting this filter criteria.
97. Let's use the filter to see all the items that have a datapoint instead. Click Edit Filter.
98. Click Operator
99. Click is not null
100. This operator will show all the items under Gender that are not blank. Click Apply.
101. The items where Gender is not blank are now shown.
102. Let's remove this filter and create a display we want to save as a private report.
103. Click Actions
104. Click Filter
105. Click Column
106. Click Date
107. Click Operator
108. Click is in the next
109. Click Expression
110. Type in 3 and click days
111. Click Apply
112. Click Actions
113. Click Filter
114. Click Column
115. Click Competition
116. Click Operator
117. Click in
118. Click the arrow next to Expression
119. Click Lakeville Fathers Day Cup
120. Click TLFC Fall Cup 2025
121. Click Apply
122. This report now shows us matches in the next 3 days in the two Competitions selected. Since we want to refer back to this report in the future, let's save it as a report.
Click Actions.
123. Click Report, then Save Report.
124. Name the report accordingly. Click Apply.
125. Our saved report with our filter settings is now shown here.
126. Our saved report with our filter settings is now available here as part of a dropdown list. You can configure and save as many reports as you wish. They are private to you.
127. To view the default Primary Report, open the dropdown and select it.
128. Note our filters are still present. We can remove these filters from the Primary Report.
129. Click here
130. The Primary Report now shows the default. To access our saved report, click the dropdown.
131. Click our saved Lakeville and TLFC next 3 days report.
132. The filters we set for our saved report are now visible.
